BVLOS UAV presentation at CEATI Vegetation Management 2016 a great success

On December 7th, 2016 NM Group and Empire District Electric discussed the results of their recent Unmanned Aerial System trial at the CEATI Vegetation Management Conference.
The full presentation, titled “The Age of the Unmanned Aerial System – Vegetation Patrol and Survey for FAC-003-3(4) Compliance in a Midwest Context”, highlighted the results of the BVLOS trial undertaken in July this year. It also looked at the unique geospatial analysis needed to extract meaningful utility reporting from the data.
Jason Grossman, Vegetation Manager at Empire District Electric commented on the CEATI conference “The presentation covered by Nick and I talked through Empire District Electric’s use of LiDAR-UAV flying beyond the pilot’s visual line of sight. A full report is available in the November edition of T&D World. As a Utility Vegetation Manager, this project was helpful in demonstrating the practical capability of this technology, when managed by competent professionals, to provide support for NERC FAC-003 compliance”.
More information can be found in the T&D article published on the project here. To discuss how to utilize UAV data within your utility contact NM Group here.
